DataXchange RTV Configuration Recommendations

DataXchange RTV Configuration Recommendations

Overview

Setting up a RTV dashboard is almost a requirement to a successful implementation of Scytec DataXchange. This article provides recommendations for PC settings and DataXchange configurations to ensure a reliable RTV dashboard.

PC Recommendations

If you do not already have a PC, here are some affordable options.
  1. Minix NEO J50C-4 MAX (link)
  2. MeLE Mini PC Stick (link)

PC Configuration

  1. Do not add the PC to the domain
    1. Here are some recommendations if the PC must be on the domain
      1. See if your IT team can configure the PC to automatically log in
      2. Exempt this PC from the typical update schedule to reduce restarts
      3. Lock down all but internet access and Scytec DataXchange
      4. The registry can be configured to automatically log in when a password is used
  2. Do not use a password to allow Windows to automatically log in
  3. Connect the PC to a guest network with internet access
  4. Configure the PC to power on when connected to AC power, this helps mitigate power outages
  5. Add the Scytec DataXchange shortcut to the Windows start up folder
    1. In File Explore, go to "shell:startup"
    2. Place DataXchange shortcut here
    3. Reboot PC to test

DataXchange Configuration

  1. Configure DataXchange to Auto Login and default to the RTV tab
    1. Go to User > Auto Login
    2. Set Auto Login to "Enable"
    3. Fill out User Name and Password
    4. Set Default Tab to "RTV"
    5. Click Enter when done
  2. Configure DataXchange RTV Auto Settings (i.e. Slide Show)
    1. Go to RTV > Options > Auto Settings
    2. Additional details can be found here (link)

Additional Recommendations

  1. Remote Management
    1. You can install a VNC server on the RTV PC and use a VNC viewer on your PC to remotely control them.
      1. You can install any remote software to accomplish the above task, VNC is typically free and easy to deploy
      2. We do not recommend using Remote Desktop as this will log the TV off and require someone to physically log in at the PC
    2. Log into DataXchange with the associated RTV DataXchange User from your desk (or anywhere), make the appropriate changes and save the settings. Within 5 minutes the changes will automatically sync with the TV out on the shop floor.
