How to Change Moxa NPort Driver IP Address

Overview

The following article will guide you through the steps to change the IP address associated with a NPort device. It involves removing the driver and adding it back in with the new IP address. 

Requirements

  1. Local Administrator Rights
  2. IP Address(es) of Moxa Device(s)

Change IP Address

  1. Notate the COM port of the device you want to change
  2. Close the application, such as Predator DNC, that connects to the NPort device
  3. Launch NPort Windows Driver Manager
  4. Locate the device via the COM port number or former IP address, double click it to open settings
  5. NPort devices can have 1, 2, 4, 8, or 16 ports
  6. Go to Advanced Settings tab and take note of Tx Mode and FIFO settings
  7. Click Cancel to close Settings
  8. Click the device from the list, Click Remove
  9. Click Apply accepting any prompts along the way
  10. Click Add
  11. Select Input Manually
  12. Enter IP address of Moxa NPort Device into NPort IP Address
  13. Enter number of serial port(s) in Total Ports
    1. Moxa NPort 5110, W2150A, P5150A = 1
    2. Moxa NPort 5210A, W2250A, IA5250A = 2
    3. Moxa NPort 5610-8 = 8
    4. Moxa NPort 5610-16 = 16
  14. Click OK
  15. Click No
  16. The device is blue, double-click it to open COM Port Setting
  17. If the NPort unit has multiple ports, hold Ctrl key and click all ports for the NPort unit,
    click Setting, then check the box Auto Enumerating COM Number for Selected Ports. 
    Select the first COM number, e.g. COM5, then each consecutive COM number will
    increment by one, e.g. COM6.

  18. Set COM Number to previous COM Number as noted previously
  19. Click Advanced Settings tab
  20. Set to previous settings, note defaults below if unsure
    1. Set Tx Mode to "Classical"
    2. Set FIFO to "Disable"
    3. Check Return Error If Network is Unavailable
  21. Click OK
  22. Click Apply
  23. Click Yes to apply the changes
