How to Check if Siemens 840D sl or SINUMERIK ONE have OPC UA

Overview

Siemens 840D solution line (sl) and SINUMERIK ONE capable of providing data using OPC UA. This article will review how to check if you have OPC UA installed/version and licensed.

Checking if OPC UA is Installed

  1. Press  button 
  2. Press Diagnostics softkey
  3. Press Version softkey
  4. Highlight "System extensions" from the list of items
  5. Press Details softkey (located on the right side of the screen)
  6. If installed, you will find "opcuas", the version will next to it, take note of this

Check if OPC UA is Licensed

  1. Press  button
  2. Press Startup softkey
  3. Press Licenses softkey
  4. Look for "Access MyMachine /OPC UA 6FC5800-0AP67-0YB0"
  5. Look at the "Licensed" column
    1. Checked, you have OPC UA
    2. Unchecked, you do not have a license and will have to purchase one
    InfoCan be purchased from the Siemens Industry Mall or your Siemens controls dealer of choice, reference "Access MyMachine /OPC UA 6FC5800-0AP67-0YB0"
    Warning
    If you enable the license without a key, it will initiate a limited time trial based on control operating hours. This can only be done once. Do not enable trial until ready to collect data. 

Turn on OPC UA

Once OPC UA is licensed, you typically have to turn it on
  1. Press  button
  2. Press Startup softkey
  3. Press Network softkey
  4. Press OPC UA softkey
  5. Network settings and ports will autofill
  6. Admin User and Password will autofill, however, its recommended you change the password
    1. e.g. OpcUaClient for user
    2. e.g. OpcUaSFA1 for password (8 characters minimum)
  7. Look for Activate OPC UA, select and check the box
  8. Press OK when done, fully power down and power on to fully activate OPC UA
