USB LAN Connect Installation Guide

USB LAN Connect Installation Guide

Overview

This manual is intended to provide the installation procedure for the USB LAN Connect pendant-mounted device.

Requirements

The USB LAN Connect device will work with a CNC control with a standard DB25 RS-232 serial connection to the control box for the purposes of input/output of CNC data. Typically, the CNC manufacturer refers this as read and punch tape functions.
Installation of this product should be done by a qualified installer. Please review the instruction manual thoroughly before beginning installation. In addition, the installer should verify that proper space and clearance has been taken into account prior to drilling holes in the CNC pendant. This includes cable bending radius and cable length.

What's Included

  1. Controller Board
  2. DIN Rail
  3. Display
  4. Display Cable
  5. CAT5 Cable (for RS-232)
  6. DB25 Adapters (labeled RJ45DB25M-NULL)
  7. USB Cable
  8. USB Panel Mount Plug
  9. AC Power Cord
  10. Micro SD Card (pre-installed)
  11. USB Drive
  12. Bag of Screws
  13. Display Housing Template (attached)

Controller Board

The Controller Board has five ports and a micro SD Card slot.

Display

The Display has one port and a Contrast Adjustment dial.

Mounting the Display

  1. Mount the Display to the CNC control using the included template.
  2. Inside the cabinet, the Display Port and the Contrast Adjustment dial should be visible through the large diameter hole.
  3. Plug the Display Cable into the Display Port of the Display.
  4. Note the length of the cable. The Controller Board will need to be within cable length distance of the display when mounted.

Mounting the USB LAN Connect Controller Board

  1. Locate a good position to mount the Controller Board. It will need to be within the distance of the Display Cable, Serial Cable and the Power Plug. Secure the DIN Rail as shown below.
  2. Mount the Controller Board to the DIN Rail.
  3. Plug the other end of the Display Cable into the Display Port on the Controller Board.

Mounting the Panel Mounted USB Plug

  1. Choose a location for the USB Panel Mount Plug. Its location should be chosen for convenient connection of a USB drive during normal operation of the machine.
  2. Punch a hole in the desired location to the dimensions shown below.

  3. Insert the USB Panel Mount Plug through the hole and secure with the attached nut while ensuring the gasket included with the USB Panel Mount Plug is used to prevent contaminants from entering the enclosure.
  4. The A side of the USB Panel Mount Plug faces out of the pendant while the square B side of the USB Panel Mount Plug faces into the pendant.
  5. The cap of the USB Panel Mount Plug snaps onto the connector house.
  6. Plug the USB Cable into the USB Port on the Controller Board while plugging the other end into the USB Panel Mount Plug.

Connecting the USB LAN Connect

The Ethernet Port with a RJ45 connection on the Controller Board should not be confused with the RJ45 connection on the DB25 Adapter. Plugging into the wrong RJ45 connection can result in permanent damage.
  1. Plug a network cable into the Ethernet Port on the Controller Board.
  2. Plug the CAT5 Cable into the RS-232 Port on the Controller board.
  3. Plug the other end of the CAT5 Cable into the DB25 Adapter
  4. Plug the DB25 Adapter into the CNC machine serial port.
  5. In most cases, it is best to simply pull the serial connector in from its mounting assembly and connect inside the pendant as shown below.

Powering the USB LAN Connect

  1. The USB LAN Connect supports 115-230 volts AC.
  2. The included AC Power Cord has two wires. The line (115-230vac) wire is black. The neutral wire is white.
  3. Once suitable power is found, plug the blue connector into Power Port on the Controller Board.
  4. A green LED should illuminate on the controller indicating that power has been applied. If properly connected, the keypad will also illuminate after a slight delay.

Adjusting the Display Contrast

  1. The blue Contrast Adjustment dial located on the back of the Display can be used to adjust the contrast of Display.
  2. This dial should be accessible through the large diameter hole in the CNC control.
