What is "open of COM## failed with 1450" error in Predator DNC?

Problem

The logs in Predator DNC show the 1450 error. 

The full error reads as "COMPORT HSM: open of COM## failed with 1450 [Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.]"

Older versions of Predator DNC, the error may appear as "open of \\.\COM## failed with 1450" 

You will often also see a timeout such as the following:
COMPORT HSM: increasing retry time to 4000...
COMPORT HSM: increasing retry time to 16000...
COMPORT HSM: increasing retry time to 64000...
COMPORT HSM: increasing retry time to 120000...

Reason

This is usually a simple network or power issue. To keep it simple, Predator DNC is unable to communicate with the hardware. 

Solutions

  1. Check the network connectivity by attempting to ping the hardware.
  2. Confirm you have adequate Wi-Fi signal strength (3+ bars).
  3. Check for IP conflicts by turning the device off, then pinging the IP address. If you still get a response, resolve the IP conflict. 
  4. Confirm the unit is powered on
    1. If the hardware is using the machine as a power source, it's possible the machine is powered off in which case power the machine on.
  5. If you recently did a migration, ensure the old DNC system is turned off and the drivers are removed from the old PC to avoid tying up the connection.
