How to Configure Fanuc FTP Settings

Overview

The article provides instructions on configuring FTP and establishing the correct I/O channel for transferring data to and from an FTP server. Here, the CNC machine functions as the FTP client.

Requirements

  1. CNC Connected to Network (How to Configure Fanuc Network and FOCAS Settings)
  2. FTP Server IP Address and Port Number
  3. FTP Server Username & Password

Controls

  1. Fanuc 16i-MB, 16i-TB, 160i-MB, 160i-TB, 160is-MB, 160is-TB
  2. Fanuc 18i-MB, 18i-TB, 180i-MB, 180i-TB, 180is-MB, 180is-TB
  3. Fanuc 21i-MB, 21i-TB, 210i-MB, 210i-TB, 210is-MB, 210is-TB
  4. Fanuc 0i-MD, 0i-TD, 0i-MF, 0i-TF
  5. Fanuc 30i Model A, Model A5, Model B, Model B5
  6. Fanuc 31i Model A, Model A5, Model B, Model B5
  7. Fanuc 32i Model A, Model A5, Model B, Model B5
  8. Essentially any Fanuc control manufactured after 2004

Configure FTP Settings (16i, 18i, 21i)

Enable Parameter Write

  1. Put control in MDI mode
  2. Press OFFSET/SETTING (i.e. OFS/SET) button until you see the "SETTING (HANDY)" page
    3. InfoIf you do not see the "SETTING (HANDY)" page, either press the SETTING softkey or press OFFSET/SETTING until you do see it
  3. Set PARAMETER WRITE (PWE) to "1"

Configure FTP Settings

  1. Press SYSTEM button
  2. Press the right arrow soft key until you see ETHPRM on the softkeys
  3. Press ETHPRM 
  4. Press (OPRT)
  5. Press EMBEDD
  6. Press PAGE DOWN button to go to page 3, "FTP TRANSFER" host 1
  7. Set PORT NUMBER to FTP Server port number (e.g. "21")
  8. Set IP ADDRESS to the host computers IP address (e.g. Predator DNC computer)
  9. Set USERNAME to the FTP Server username for this machine (typically machine number)
  10. Set PASSWORD to the FTP Server password for this machine (typically machine number)
  11. Set LOGIN DIR to blank (if filled in, enter a space to clear it)
  12. Repeat steps 6-11 for page 4 (Host 2) and page 5 (Host 3)

Disable Parameter Write

  1. Press OFFSET/SETTING (i.e. OFS/SET) button until you see the "SETTING (HANDY)" page
    2. InfoIf you do not see the "SETTING (HANDY)" page, either press the SETTING softkey or press OFFSET/SETTING until you do see it
  2. Set PARAMETER WRITE (PWE) to "0"

Configure FTP Settings (0i, 30i, 31i, 32i)

It is not necessary to enable parameter write or put in MDI mode on these models 
  1. Press SYSTEM button
  2. Press the right arrow soft key until you see EMBED PORT on the softkeys
  3. Press EMBED PORT
  4. Press FTP TRANS, this takes you to page 1/6

  5. Set HOSTNAME (IP ADDRESS) to the host computers IP address (Predator DNC computer)
  6. Leave PORT NUMBER set to 21
  7. Set USER NAME to the FTP Server user name for this machine (typically machine number)
  8. Set PASSWORD to the FTP Server password for this machine (typically machine number)

  9. Press PAGE DOWN button to go to page 2/6
  10. Leave LOGIN FOLDER blank

  11. Repeat steps 5-10 for pages 3/4 (Host 2) and pages 5/6 (Host 3)

Change I/O Channel

  1. Put the machine in MDI mode
  2. Press the SETTING button
  3. Set the I/O CHANNEL to "9"

Finalize Configuration

  1. Turn the CNC Control off then back on to apply changes
