How to Install Digi RealPort Drivers

Overview

Digi RealPort drivers are used for most Digi products that use RS232 serial ports. 

Requirements

  1. Local Administrator Rights
  2. Device IP Address

Preparation

  1. Program the Digi Device (How to Program a Digi ConnectPort TS 8 & 16 Hub)
  2. Download and extract the RealPort Drivers (link)

Install the RealPort Drivers

  1. Run "Setup.exe"
  2. You may get the following screens, do the following if they appear:
    1. Click Run if any security warnings appear
    2. Select Add a New Device
  3. On the Select Device Screen, you will have one of two options, choose whichever applies:
    1. Device does appears
      1. Click the device to select it, then click Next

      2. Optionally, change the Device Model Name
      3. Confirm the IP is correct
      4. Confirm the No. Ports is correct

    2. Device does not appear after 10 seconds
      1. Click <Device not listed>, then click Next

      2. Optionally, change the Device Model Name
      3. Select IP
      4. Type in the IP address of the device
      5. Select the quantity of serial ports listed under No. Ports

  4. Select the Starting COM
  5. SFA highly recommends starting at COM5
  6. Click Install Options...

  7. Click Install Modem INF
  8. Click OK

  9. Click Finish

  10. If prompted to "Proceed anyway?", click Yes

  11. Installation will commence, once complete, click Finish
  12. Repeat for additional devices while selecting the next available Starting COM

Configure Serial API to Alert if Device Goes Off-line

  1. Open "Device Manager"
  2. Under "Multi-port serial adapters", locate the recently installed device, double click it to open Properties

  3. Click Port 1 to highlight it
  4. Go to Advanced tab
  5. Check Do Not Scan Modems on Boot (Serenum SkipEnumerations)
  6. Click Custom Settings

  7. Check Use Serial API to Alert Application if Device Goes Off-line
  8. Click OK

  9. Click Copy Settings...

  10. Click Port 2 to highlight
  11. While holding the shift key, scroll down then click the last port, this will highlight all the ports
  12. Click OK to apply all changes

  13. You may close all recently opened Windows
