USB & LAN Connect - Fadal

Overview 

This article is for USB and/or LAN Connect hardware and includes settings, parameters, and instructions to communicate to Fadal.

Warning
Notate or take a picture of any parameters before you change them

Connections

  1. Physically connect the USB/LAN Connect to the Fanuc control 
    1. Connect black 8-pin cable to bottom of the USB/LAN Connect 
    2. Connect tan 25-pin adapter to black 8-pin cable on the other end 
    3. Connect gray 4-pin cable from screen into board (if using internal USB/LAN Connect) 
    4. Remove yellow and silver gender changer from tan 25-pin adapter; plug into machine serial port 
    5. Attach USB stick or SD card to unit 
  2. Plug the power supply into the USB/LAN Connect 
    1. Screen should come on once powered 

Standard Transfer Speed Parameters

USB/LAN Connect has three buttons, left, middle, and right. Depending on the screen, these can either be softkeys that reference a digital button on the screen or up (left), down (right), and select (middle) buttons. 
  1. Press Setup from the main menu 
  2. Press Baud Rate
    1. Select "9600"
  3. Press Data/Par/Stp (Data/Parity/Stop bits) 
    1. Select "7, even, 1"
  4. Press Flow Control
    1. Select "SW XON/XOFF"
  5. Press EOB Delay (End-of-block delay) 
    1. Select "No Delay"
  6. Press EOB Char (End-of-block character) 
    1. Select "CR LF"
  7. Press Start Tx (Transmission start character) 
    1. Select "None"
  8. Press End Tx (Transmission end character) 
    1. Select "None"
  9. Press Start Rx (Receive start character) 
    1. Select "Automatic"
  10. Scroll down and press Okay

Fadal Parameters

  1. Press MANUAL button until you see "ENTER NEXT COMMAND <"
  2. Type "SETP", then press ENTER button
  3. Press ENTER button to keep G-code style setting
  4. Type "8", then press ENTER button (this sets the baud rate to 9600)
  5. Press MANUAL button
  6. Turn off main power for 5 minutes, then power back on
  7. Parameters have now been set

High-Speed Transfers (XMODEM) Parameters

  3. Press Data/Par/Stp (Data/Parity/Stop bits) 
    1. Select "8, none, 1"
  4. Press Flow Control
    1. Select "XMODEM"
  5. Press EOB Delay (End-of-block delay) 
    1. Select "No Delay"
  6. Press EOB Char (End-of-block character) 
    1. Select "CR LF"
  7. Press Start Tx (Transmission start character) 
    1. Select "None"
  8. Press End Tx (Transmission end character) 
    1. Select "None"
  9. Press Start Rx (Receive start character) 
    1. Select "Automatic"
  10. Scroll down and press Okay

Fadal Parameters

  1. Press MANUAL button until you see "ENTER NEXT COMMAND <"
  2. Type "SETP", then press ENTER button
  3. Press ENTER button to keep G-code style setting
  4. Type "10", then press ENTER button (this sets the baud rate to 38400)
  5. Press MANUAL button
  6. Turn off main power for 5 minutes, then power back on
  7. Parameters have now been set

Sending and Receiving Programs

Send to CNC

  1. From CNC Machine Control 
    1. Press MANUAL button until you see "ENTER NEXT COMMAND <"
    2. Type "TA,1", then press ENTER button
  2. From USB/LAN Connect 
    1. Start at the main menu 
    2. Press USB to CNC on the USB Connect, or File to CNC on the LAN Connect
    3. Find the program you want to send, then press the middle button 
    4. Press Start
    5. Program will now be sent into the machine

Receive from CNC

  1. From USB/LAN Connect 
    1. Start at the main menu 
    2. Press CNC to USB on the USB Connect, or CNC to File on the LAN Connect
    3. Press Start
  2. From Machine Control 
    1. Press MANUAL button until you see "ENTER NEXT COMMAND <"
    2. Current program will be punched, but if another program is desired, do the following:
      1. Type "PR"
      2. Type "1"
      3. Type in the program number to save, e.g. "1234"
      4. Press ENTER button
      5. Press MANUAL button to go back to 
    3. Type "PU,2", then press ENTER button

Drip Feed (DNC) to CNC

  1. From CNC Machine Control 
    1. Press MANUAL button until you see "ENTER NEXT COMMAND <"
    2. Type "DNC" if you used Standard Transfer or "DNCX" if you used High-Speed Transfer
    3. Press ENTER button
  2. From USB/LAN Connect
    1. Start at the main menu 
    2. Press DNC on the USB/LAN Connect
    3. Find the program you want to send, then press the middle button 
    4. Press Start
  3. From CNC Machine Control
    1. Press CYCLE START button
    2. Program will now start drip feeding
