Floppy Connect 2.0 Installation and Operation Guide for Haas
Overview
The Floppy Connect 2.0 emulator replaces your existing floppy drive & acts as if it were never removed. This article is for a Haas CNC machine only.
USB Flash Drive Requirements
- USB flash drive that is 32GB or less; SFA recommends 8 or 16GB drives
Connecting Cables
Looking at the rear of the Floppy Connect 2.0, the smaller power connector is on the left, and the larger data connector is on the right.
- The power cable plugs into the power connector with the two wires closest to the data connector
- The ribbon cable plugs into the data connector with the red or blue pin 1 wire closest to the power connector
Installing the Floppy Connect 2.0
- Power down machine and follow lock out tag out procedures
- Remove the existing floppy drive and unplug both power and ribbon cables
- Plug in the ribbon cable ensuring the red (or blue) pin 1 wire on the ribbon cable is connected to the left side of the data connector
- Plug in the power cable
- Put the Floppy Connect 2.0 in place of the old floppy drive and fasten any screws
- Power up the Haas

Operating the Floppy Connect 2.0 with a Haas
Loading USB Directory
This will create a program on the Haas, O08999, that will contain the contents of the USB flash drive. It also serves as a test method to confirm the Floppy Connect 2.0 works.
- Press LIST PROG button
- Press F4 button; accept any prompts to overwrite
- The Floppy Connect 2.0 R/W LED should turn on; this indicates the file is being read from the USB flash drive
- Press EDIT button to open the newly loaded program "O08999" DIR LIST
- Notate the file to load into memory, you must include the extension
Loading Files (Floppy Connect 2.0 > Haas)
- Plug in USB flash drive
- Type in the full program name, including extension if it exists e.g. 1234.NC
- Press F3 button
- The Floppy Connect 2.0 R/W LED should turn on; this indicates the file is being read from the USB flash drive
- Once you see "Floppy Done...", press LIST PROG button and open the program
Saving Files (Haas > Floppy Connect 2.0)
- Plug in USB flash drive
- Press LIST PROG button
- Highlight the program you wish to save out; press SELECT PROG button
- Optionally, enter an alternate filename
- Press F2 button
- The Floppy Connect 2.0 R/W LED should turn on; this indicates the file is being written to the USB flash drive
- Once you see "Floppy Done..." and R/W LED is off, you can unplug the USB flash drive and take to a computer to confirm it saved correctly
