Floppy Connect 2.0 Installation and Operation Guide for Mazak 640
Overview
The Floppy Connect 2.0 emulator replaces your existing floppy drive & acts as if it were never removed. This article is for Mazak Mazatrol 640M & 640T machines only.
USB Flash Drive Requirements
- USB flash drive that is 32GB or less; SFA recommends 8 or 16GB drives
Connecting Cables
Looking at the rear of the Floppy Connect 2.0, the smaller power connector is on the left, and the larger data connector is on the right.
- The power cable plugs into the power connector with the two wires closest to the data connector
- The ribbon cable plugs into the data connector with the red or blue pin 1 wire closest to the power connector
Installing the Floppy Connect 2.0
- Power down machine and follow lock out tag out procedures
- Remove the existing floppy drive and unplug both power and ribbon cables
- Plug in the ribbon cable ensuring the red (or blue) pin 1 wire on the ribbon cable is connected to the left side of the data connector
- Plug in the power cable
- Put the Floppy Connect 2.0 in place of the old floppy drive and fasten any screws
- Power up the equipment
Operating the Floppy Connect 2.0 with a Mazak CNC Machine
In addition to the formatting procedure for the Floppy Connect 2.0, Mazak controls require an additional formatting step.
- Plug in USB flash drive
- Press DATA IN/OUT
- Press FLOPPY
- Press FD FORMAT
- Enter "-9999" then press Input
- Press START
- USB flash drive will now be formatted for use with the Mazak
Loading Files (Floppy Connect 2.0 > Mazak)
- Plug in USB flash drive
- Press DATA IN/OUT
- Press FLOPPY
- Press DIR. SELECT
- Select the folder your programs are stored in and press Input
- Press CONTENTS FD
- Press START
- Press LOAD NC <- FD
- Press START
- Program(s) will now be loaded into the main memory
Saving Files (Mazak > Floppy Connect 2.0)
- Plug in USB flash drive
- Press DATA IN/OUT
- Press FLOPPY
- Press DIR. SELECT
- Select the folder you want to save files to, then press Input
- Press CONTENTS FD
- Press START
- Press SAVE NC -> FD
- Press PROGRAM FILE
- Type in the program(s) you wish to save and press Input (each time if more than one program)
- Press START
- Program(s) will now be saved onto the USB flash drive
