Floppy Connect 2.0 Installation and Operation Guide for Mazak 640

Overview

The Floppy Connect 2.0 emulator replaces your existing floppy drive & acts as if it were never removed. This article is for Mazak Mazatrol 640M & 640T machines only. 

USB Flash Drive Requirements

  1. USB flash drive that is 32GB or less; SFA recommends 8 or 16GB drives

Connecting Cables

Looking at the rear of the Floppy Connect 2.0, the smaller power connector is on the left, and the larger data connector is on the right. 
  1. The power cable plugs into the power connector with the two wires closest to the data connector
  2. The ribbon cable plugs into the data connector with the red or blue pin 1 wire closest to the power connector

Installing the Floppy Connect 2.0

  1. Power down machine and follow lock out tag out procedures
  2. Remove the existing floppy drive and unplug both power and ribbon cables
  3. Plug in the ribbon cable ensuring the red (or blue) pin 1 wire on the ribbon cable is connected to the left side of the data connector
  4. Plug in the power cable
  5. Put the Floppy Connect 2.0 in place of the old floppy drive and fasten any screws
  6. Power up the equipment

Operating the Floppy Connect 2.0 with a Mazak CNC Machine

Formatting the USB Flash Drive for the Mazak

In addition to the formatting procedure for the Floppy Connect 2.0, Mazak controls require an additional formatting step. 
  1. Plug in USB flash drive
  2. Press DATA IN/OUT
  3. Press FLOPPY
  4. Press FD FORMAT
  5. Enter "-9999" then press Input
  6. Press START
  7. USB flash drive will now be formatted for use with the Mazak

Loading Files (Floppy Connect 2.0 > Mazak)

  1. Plug in USB flash drive
  2. Press DATA IN/OUT
  3. Press FLOPPY
  4. Press DIR. SELECT
  5. Select the folder your programs are stored in and press Input
  6. Press CONTENTS FD
  7. Press START
  8. Press LOAD NC <- FD
  9. Press START
  10. Program(s) will now be loaded into the main memory

Saving Files (Mazak > Floppy Connect 2.0)

  1. Plug in USB flash drive
  2. Press DATA IN/OUT
  3. Press FLOPPY
  4. Press DIR. SELECT
  5. Select the folder you want to save files to, then press Input
  6. Press CONTENTS FD
  7. Press START
  8. Press SAVE NC -> FD
  9. Press PROGRAM FILE
  10. Type in the program(s) you wish to save and press Input (each time if more than one program)
  11. Press START
  12. Program(s) will now be saved onto the USB flash drive
