How to Program Moxa NPort W2150A, W2250A, W2150A-W4, & W2250A-W4 in Wired Mode

Overview

This article will go through the steps to program a Moxa NPort W2150A, W2250A, W2150A-W4, & W2250A-W4 unit to be used in wired mode only. 

Convert Wireless to Wired

This section describes how to convert an already programmed Moxa NPort device to function in wired mode. 

Requirements

  1. IP Address of Programmed Moxa NPort Device
  2. Programmed Moxa NPort Device (Instructions)

Program Ethernet Settings

  1. From a web browser, go to http://[moxa_ip_address]
    1. e.g. http://192.168.1.100/
  2. Type "admin" in Account field
  3. Type "moxa" in Password field
  4. InfoIf you are getting incorrect password, try leaving the password blank.
  5. Click Login
  6. Go to Network Settings > Ethernet/Bridge Settings
  7. Set IP configuration to "Static"
  8. Type the IP address of the Moxa NPort device in IP address field
  9. Type the Subnet Mask of the Moxa NPort device in Netmask field
  10. Type the Gateway of the Moxa NPort device in Gateway field
  11. Click Submit
  12. Device will prompt for reboot, Click OK

Program in Wired Mode from Scratch

This section describes how to program a brand-new Moxa NPort device in wired mode

Requirements

  1. Ethernet Cable
  2. 12-48vdc Power Supply (12vdc included)
  3. Static IP Address, Subnet Mask (Netmask), & Gateway
  4. DSU (link)

Configure Network Settings

  1. Plug in Ethernet cable between Ethernet port located on the top of the unit and your PC Ethernet port
  2. Plug power supply into Moxa
  3. Launch DSU
  4. Click Search and wait for it to complete

  5. Verify the MAC address matches the white label on the back of the unit
  6. Click Un-Lock (If this is grayed out, skip this step)
    1. Username: "admin"
    2. Password: "moxa"
    3. InfoIf you are getting incorrect password, try leaving the password blank.
  7. Click the device in DSU to highlight
  8. Click Assign IP
  9. Enter IP AddressNetmask, and Gateway
  10. Press OK then wait for it to complete
  11. If successful, Press OK
  12. A new search will automatically start, confirm the same Moxa appears with the correct IP address
  13. Power down Moxa unit and unplug Ethernet cable from PC

Drivers

If Moxa NPort device has a new IP or was programmed from scratch, you must install the drivers.

Boot into Wired Mode

Alert
Ethernet MUST be plugged into Ethernet port before powering up Moxa
  1. While Moxa is still powered down, plug in company Ethernet cable
  2. Power up Moxa NPort device
  3. Confirm "Ready" LED is the only LED light lit up 

Boot into Wireless Mode

Alert
Ethernet cannot be plugged into Ethernet port before powering up Moxa
  1. Unplug the network cable from the Ethernet port on the Moxa NPort device
  2. Restart the Moxa NPort device to boot into wireless mode
  3. Confirm "WLAN" LED is either flashing or solid green

Troubleshooting

  1. Unable to find the unit with DSU
    1. It is very important to first plug in the Ethernet cable before power up the unit. Unplug the power cord, plug in the Ethernet cable, then plug in the power cord. 
  2. WLAN light is flashing green
    1. Moxa NPort device has booted into wireless mode. Power down Moxa, plug in Ethernet cable, and power up Moxa.
  3. WLAN light is not lit
    1. Moxa NPort device has booted into wired mode. Power down Moxa, unplug Ethernet cable, and power up Moxa.
