How to Check and Update Moxa NPort W2150A & W2250A Firmware

Overview

This article will go through the steps to update the firmware on a Moxa NPort W2150A or W2250A unit. 

When upgrading from version 1.x to version 2.x firmware, you must first update the Moxa NPort unit to version 1.11 before proceeding to version 2.x firmware

Requirements

1. IP Address of Moxa NPort unit
   
2. Firmware
   
1. Version 2.3 (link)
   
2. Version 1.11 (link)

How to Check Current Firmware Version

1. From a web browser, go to http://[moxa_ip_address]
   
1. e.g. http://192.168.1.100/
   
2. In the upper right corner, you will find the firmware version

How to Update Firmware

1. From a web browser, go to http://[moxa_ip_address]
   
1. e.g. http://192.168.1.100/
2. Type "admin" in Account field
   
3. Type "moxa" in Password field
   
If this fails, try leaving the password field blank
4. Click Login
   
1. 
5. Go to System Management > Maintenance > Firmware Upgrade
   
6. Click Choose File and select the firmware file
   
7. Verify the firmware version, then click Submit

1. The update process takes approximately 2-3 minutes, do not power off or disconnect the unit from the network
   
2. Sometimes the page will not show any activity or even appear locked up; if this lasts more than 5 minutes, refresh or reboot the unit and try again
3. The Moxa NPort unit will reboot on it's own once complete

Troubleshooting

1. Unable to connect to the unit from the web browser
   
1. Try connecting to the unit in wired mode by disconnecting power, plugging in an Ethernet cable, then plugging back in the power cable
2. The page appears to be locked up
   
1. Wait up to 5 minutes and if the issue still persists, attempt to refresh the page or reboot the unit
