How to Test a Haas Serial Port

How to Test a Haas Serial Port

Overview

The Haas loopback test can be used to test the integrity of the serial port. This procedure was provided by Haas and is an official test.

Preparation

  1. Change setting 14 to CTS/RTS
  2. On port 1 (top port), jump the following pins on the upper (or only) serial port using wire, DB jumpers, or a thin piece of metal (i.e. paper clip).
    1. Pins 2 & 3
    2. Pins 14 & 16
  3. Turn machine off, then back on

Perform the Test

  1. Press LIST PROGRAM button
  2. Press PARAM | DGNOS button twice
  3. Press SEND RS232 button
  4. The screen will say "Testing Serial..." at the bottom
    1. If the port is good, the screen will show "Serial Passed
    2. If the port is bad, the screen will show "Serial Failed"

Options for Bad Serial Port

  1. If you have two serial ports and the lower serial port is not being used, you can swap ribbon cables and try to use the lower serial port.
  2. If you only have one serial port or trying the option above did not work, you will need to contact your Haas service team for options.
  3. If you have a working floppy drive, you can purchase a USB Floppy Emulator from SFA, just tell the support technician or contact your Account Executive.
